Because the corporate US media lied to the people. instead of being a watchdog of truth, the media was complicit in deliberately and willfully misleading the public into believing a connection between the terrorist attack on Sept. 11th and Saddam Hussien's Iraq.

The media deliberatly supported and passed on the Administration's lies about WMD and the incredible tenuous links between Iraq and Alqueda.

Terrorist training camps where discovered, but these where in the Autonomous Kurdish North, in an area that was not Under Saddam's control since 1991 and was an American ally in Iraq.

These areas were protected by the American no-fly zones and therefore you could argue that these terrorist training camps where under the protection of the American Government.

There is FAR more evidence linking the Bush regime (particularly Cheney) to the attacks on 911 than any Iraqi link, but the media will not tell the truth.

I am NOTt saying that Bush or Cheney where responsible for 911, what I AM saying is that the media reported alledged links between saddam and alqueda that where weaker and less credible than the established current and historical links between the Current US administration and alqueda.

Based on the very scant and innacurate evidence put forward by the media as truth, that Saddam had anything to do with 911, then the current extensive evidence that the mainstream media refuses to touch with a bargepole suggests that the US administration was far more likely to have been involved in making sure 911 happened than Saddam did.

The media treats you with utter contempt. switch off and stick to trustworthy news on the internet instead.

It is the power of propaganda. The propaganda re. Iraq began weeks before Iraq itself was mentioned.

There are two examples
1 The Washington sniper.
Even someone with a basic knowledge of serial-killers would have seen this behaviour as classic serial-killer. But the authorities and the media painted the sniper as a terrorist.
This was deliberate dishonesty aimed at cashing in on peoples fear of terrorism, with the intention of laying the ground for a big attack, somewhere.
2 The dirty bomber.
I've forgotton which city he was in, but this was a guy who was describe as having some of the components of a dirty bomb in his possession. You can get some of the components of a dirty bomb at your local hypermarket, so that in itself means nothing.
The media response on this situation, over here in the UK was immense for the first day of reportage. Then the next day it was hardly mentioned. Why? because the British media had realised it was a hugely exaggerated story. Huge exaggerations = propaganda.
One had to ask oneself why the US governement had suddenly began to be "economical with the truth" again, and the obvious conclusion was that they were planning to attack someone.
Who would that be. It was only going to be one country. The second biggest oil-producing country in the world, the country that was a thorn-in-the-side of the US administration, the Arab country most hated by Al Qaeda, the former US ally, Iraq.

Put simply, every 10 years the West needs to destroy any growing powers in the Middle-East to keep oil prices down. If anyone doesn't agree with me, ask yourself what is REALLY going on with IRAN now. They are the new thorn to be pulled and you can bet a drachma to a dollar that a lot of what is being said is untrue (as everybody now realises it was with IRAQ). The US government have just upped the anti, because most of the West and, now perhaps, most of America, is a little more sceptical.
The US government is playing on the old fear of nuclear weapons, but their real fear is that an Arab country will become economically self-sufficient and no-longer have to cow-tow to the West and this will have negative psychological, political and economic ramifications for the West especially in relation to the American cash-cow, Arab oil.

Before anyone thoughtlessly disagrees with what I have written here.
I would strongly suggest that if you think that I am wrong, please provide solid evidence to the contary. It would be much more impressive than simply calling me a "****". And I am willing to look at any genuine evidence.
I strongly believe in the truth and the truth is that all empires crush the satellite cultures around them. This is not just an American or Western response.

The American people were subjected to carefully planned media images. The American people beleive WHAT THEY SEE and think it real. So they made a collage of images . The images went into their subconscious mind and there they stay. Even when confronted by hard facts the images hold more "reality" for them.
Additionaly they never knew about Reagan and Bush senior selling Saddam 80 billion dollars in high tech and security weaponry. Saddam bank rolled the US economy for a good 10 years. The Bush-ites hoped Saddam would genocide Iran for them. They still have that goal . However it did not work out as they planned, leading to the current situation wherein the Shias are takeing territory.
The American people knew nothing about Bush Sr. relationship with Saddam Hussein. it started with a mere 12 million dollars . A lot of money back in 1980. but today is 4.3 billion in debt. That's a pretty big obsession.
I saw in a primary school library a children's book on terrorism. Saddam was in there. But instead of stateing the plain truth: " Saddam Hussein hardline Stalinist marxist dictator , ally of the Bush Admin" -they just showed him in the mosque of Abdul Qadir Jilani in Baghdad. He being a revered saint among all Muslims around the globe. So how does an atheist communist become a mystical holy guy in a saints shrine? ? Only in the hollywood dreams of GW Bush can that happen. Muslims were the 1st victims of saddam Hussein . He was directly responsible for the deaths of over 3 million Muslims over the last 25 years. ( genocide by proxy) So Why do they show him in a Mosque praying? It's simple they STILL want to make a pretext to genocide all the MUSLIMS. They want and excuse to do this. They have to demonise muslims. So it works for them Evil guy Saddam Evil guy Osama Muslim terrorists. One problem . The only thing these 2 men have in common is that both of them were trained and armed by old man Bush! besides that they have nothing in common! So they associate Saddams crimes against humanity with Islam specifically. It's a false flag operation from A to Z.
People that knew all along about Saddam and old man Bush will question the Al Qaida linkage story. No wahabi - like Osama Bin ladin would hesitate to execute Saddam. No Shia would hesitate either. Sunni muslims would not either unless he was on Saddams payroll. Lots of them were. But somebody else was also financially linked to Saddam. All the states that made billions selling him arms .UK ,Germany, Romania, USA, Russia , France all made money off Saddam.
So when it all went bad for them they simply blamed the hapless people -who for all these years have been victims of saddam's cruelty. The crimes for which he was hung are the tip of an enourmous iceburg . Add to that Bush Sr's crimes like the DU , sanctions and bombs it is indeed an enourmous crime against humanity.
So they needed a scapegoat and knew that Americans were ignorant about Iraq. They believed the lie because Bush filled in the blanks for them. He told them what to beleive.
I mean, would any American -a lover of freedom like to admit they helped a guy who was a Stalinist communist? If America loves Jeffersonian ideals why would they install this dictator into power?
No communist is the ally of a Muslim -even a terrorist. Americans don't even know what the Baath party is. They see Saddam in a mosque praying on TV( as a Muslim I found THAT insulting , repugnant) Saddam manipulated images too!
But, he was an evil fraud as a human.
It's like film clips of Hitler with little kids and dogs. We say TAGHUT ... a demon , a dictator an extremely evil human.
and then there are the business connections with Bin Laden Group. Americans are clueless about that too! Its an amazing story. I hope he doesn't start a nuclear war.

They believe it because they watch Fox News.
Mike B, WMD were never found or proved to exist in Iraq, and everyone breaks treaties when it suits them, including your country and mine. What you do not mention about Saddam (may he rot in hull) is that he was a fervent enemy of Al Quaida. Hated them, passionately. That's why they were never in Iraq till Bush opened the door for them. Al Quaida and Bin Liner were responsible for 9/11, not Saddam. He was a ruthless dictator and mass murderer, but he wasn't our enemy.

Why? Because some people are confused. And some just think of "them arabs" as if they are all in cahoots with everyone else over there.

And these confused people answer before finding facts, probably because the facts aren't important to them.

And I do NOT believe we went to war over oil. Not that oil had nothing to do with it. There was a maniacal dictator torturing his people, & if getting him out of there meant one less lunitic out to screw us with oil, that's all the better!

I don't think that. The people who think this don't really care or pay attention to what's going on. Yes we know who is in control of our weapons and military.......very scary!!! Didn't you see the AMERICAN protesters today?

Because Fox News/Bush told them that Iraq/Saddam was directly responsible for 9/11.

Sir, you may be confusing complicated facts. Let me dissect them for you.

No one thinks Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. We had a right to attack the country because it was ruled by a dictator who murders his own people as well as because he violated the terms of his surrender in the previous Gulf War.

There were compelling reasons to attack Iraq. Yes, oil is a factor, but oil alone will not come close to paying for this war. More important was the potential of creating a democratic society in the heart of the middle east. Lack of freedom and opportunity creates terrorists, and this is what we hoped to fix. In addition, Iraq was to have served as another example of our ability to upend any regime that fell out of favor with the US. In other words, it was meant to keep North Korea and Iran in check.

Short version: revenge wasn't a motive, and the war is justified.
