Debates don't require dirt. Debates require facts to support opinions, Either Eisenhower was a great leader or he wasn't. He became the leader of one of the greatest military organizations the world has known. He freed millions of people from Nazi tyranny and held a fragile coalition of egomaniac leaders together to achieve a common goal. On the negative side, he elected to halt his armies and allow the Soviets to cement their stranglehold on Eastern Europe which led to the Cold War. Either point can be argued successfully without any dirt being thrown.

Probably the worst thing Eisenhower did was not to publically rebuke Joe McCarthy when he accused General George Marshall (Ike's old boss) of being a communist sympathizer. This was right before the 1952 election and Ike was afraid to get into a spat with Crazy Joe.

Marshall was a great American. One of the finest. The Marshall Plan which rebuilt war torn Europe was an inspired piece of work.

But generally, Eisenhower was a clean guy. So if you have to argue this (and it's always good thinking practice to argue for the opposite way you feel - it often gives greater insight) good luck. Eisenhower was by far the better president.

There isn't much. Ike was a 5 Star General before he was President. He was elected because he was one of the few squeaky clean politicians around. Actually, he was not a politician, but he got involved because the Republican party wanted a strong leader type and he was it.

He did get the U.S. initially involved in Vietnam after the French pulled out. Our treaty obligations (S.E.A.T.O) pushed him into the mess.
