Let me say I consider my pets to be my children, and I've spent thousands on them, and yet none of my support is Tax Deductable and yet there are several skanks that can go out, get knocked up and make a living off welfare and child support.
I think under certain conditions people's 'pets' should qualify as dependants. People such as I, who do not intend on having children of my own or those that perhaps are infertile and raise their pets as their children.

YOU GO GIRL I love my pets just as much as anyone loves their snotty nosed little kids they are also better behaved, and I don't know about anyone else but I spend a small fortune on all of my pets and it comes out of my paychecks that I go out and put in a hard days labor for not, lying on my back with my legs up in the air and getting a check from the government that comes out of the income tax that I pay and quite alot of for that matter. However in Canada if you have over a certain amount of property (farm land) you can claim your dog's food as a deduction for security purposes, at least it's something I guess, but I'm totally with you. PET PARENTS UNITE!!

i think you should be able to, if do not have children and do not plan to have children, and if you got the tax credit for having a pet and have children, they take away what ever amount from your child tax credit because you were only getting the credit because in a way that was your child, or else everyone would be going out and getting pets and it would be out of control. and yes, down with the welfare dependant skanks!

anyone with an IQ of a flea knows you cant 'make a living' off of welfare (look at the amounts for familys-$350 per month for a family of 3 doesnt pay rent let alone squat).

i think there is a reason why God didnt give you children. he didnt want such a person who lacks humanity to breed.

I whole-heartedly agree. Yes, my pets are my kids. At the very least we should be able to deduct the cost of state, county and city registrations if those are required where they might be applicable. The cost of immunizations too! And pet insurance premiums... The cost of neuters/spay surgerys. (I can think of a few people that oughtta be fixed!) ... I could go on an on.

I hadn't really thought about that. You do have a point though. Between my cats, dogs, horse, and cow I do spend thousands of dollars in food, shelter, and medical bills each year.

Most people with kids probably don't spend as much on them as I do my animals. Some definitely don't spend as much time with them as I do my animals.

Somehow, I doubt that it will ever happen though. But, I think it's a great idea.

skanks are humans and have kids that are dependent on them animals were once never dependent on humans until we enslaved them,no matter how much you love your pets there still not a human you can drop a pet off at a humane society if you no longer want them....try that with a kid!

I agree. Pets cost thousands of dollars but we don't get them to use them as a tax deduction just as we SHOULDN'T have kids for that reason but unfortunately some will. That is probably why they don't allow it since people could get animals for that sole purpose and not even take care of them.

Its ashamed some people can't be forcefully fixed. What happens if instead of having babies these low lifes decide to have say 10 dogs and 20 cats, 16 hamsters and what about the rats and mice probably already living with them????? Can they be claimed????

If you asked anyone......a pet is a domesticated animal that is "DEPENDENT" on their owner for food, shelter and care. Yes they should be counted !!! And I also agree with whoever said "down with skanks"!

I have pets and children, and both are very well taken care of, and I agree, they should be dependents.
