You've asked all of your fellow Britons this question, and you're qualified to speak on their behalf?
You've asked all of my fellow Americans whether we think the British are our best friends, and you're qualified to speak on our behalf?
Not trying to sound rude myself, but this seems terribly presumptious of you.

I never really thought about the British that way although I did have a very good friend from Britain in high school. He was an exchange student.
I hope that you don't think that about ALL Americans, because not all of them are rude. I do admit that I have ran into what I had felt was more than my share of rude and obnoxious people but not everyone here is. It's like saying that all Muslims hate America and want to blow it up. It's a stereotype. A couple of hotheads screw it up for the rest of them. Same with us. Those who prefer to not care about others' feelings and be rude and obnoxious ruin it for the ones who are not. I feel bad that things like that happen in the world.

Who knows? Probably because some remember we were originally 13 colonies of the British Empire and that we've been allies in a couple of wars. And don't those countries still have fairly young ties to you blokes? We won our independance over two centuries ago.
To tell the truth, I'm American and I think we're sometimes rude, loud and obnoxious and probably many nations have that opinion of us. But everyone's different and cultures are different. We're such a "melting pot", we're bound to become roudy. And some Americans would probably think Brits are stuck up. I haven't met enough Britons to form much of any general opinion though.

I've been to the UK, and I did not feel that way at all. Granted, I stayed with family, so I was very welcome, but I found that the people around us were very nice. A man on the train from Euston to Manchester Piccadilly gave up his seat so that my parents and I could sit together, without us even asking. The only place that I thought people were rude was on the Underground. Someone actually pushed, and I mean physically took her hands to my mother's back and PUSHED her onto the train. Also, we went to a wedding, and one of the guests who I was trying to talk to was very rude to me. I introduced myself and she dryly replied, and then turned and faced the wall. Otherwise, everyone was nice, and I think that it is wrong of you to speak for such a large and diverse population in such a blunt manner. That would be like me saying that all Americans think that all British people are snotty and have their noses in the air.

What percentage of Americans do you think even know anyone from the UK. How could we consider you friends. Just because George and Tony are pals don't make us friends. Everyone should love us as much as our money we give to EVERYONE. That is all people want they want to hate us but want us to donate trillions of dollars every year to help them.

Since when are we best friends? Just because your Blaire kisses our President's ***! How ironic considering we broke free from you a couple hundred years ago.. Infact all you do is kiss our asses because were the ones with the most powerful military. I think its hilarious how you have this idea of how were "Best Friends". Please we have way more class than that. We like Big Homes, Big SUVS, and BIG BLING~ So if you don't like it -- **** off!

That's okay, most of the US thinks Brit is full of snobby, funny talking, hygenically unsound people! Not trying to be rude myself, just pointing it out.
To be honest, I don't give much of a damn what any brits think about me or my country, because to me, I live in the greatest country on earth. Therefore, their opinion doesn't make a difference to me.

British people think about America about a hundred times more than Americans think about Britain. Basically, we don't care what you think or what the latest news is on your inbred royal family. Soon your little island nations will be overrun with immigrants. Wonder where you'll want to move to then?

My, don't YOU have a high opinion of yourself! To be honest, I don't think that most Americans really give a damn about you or your irrelevant little island.
The better question would be: "Why do Brits think they matter on the world stage?"
Answer: "They don't. They just ride America's coat-tails."
