Essentially, Paris is in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Romeo receives word that Juliet is dead and returns to Verona intent on killing himself in by her side in her family's tomb. When he arrives, Paris is there. Paris basically ambushes him. Romeo begs him not to make him fight, but Paris foolishly challenges Romeo. They fight and Romeo wins. Paris asks that Romeo lay his body besides Juliet, but it seems that when the people of Verona discover that Romeo and Juliet are dead, they are more interested in the young couple than in hapless Paris, who is forgotten in the shuffle.

Is this a new version of the play? In every performance I have seen, Romeo kills Tybalt. Paris survives to the end.
