Most of the time you're going to get charged one hour labor plus parts, some vehicles it can be quite difficult to get at.

Here's what I did. There is a service station on the corner by my house...try to find a close one who does mechanical work. Ask them if you buy the part yourself, how much it would cost you if they would put it in. Chances are they will keep it minimal. The max I've been charged here for work is $80 and that was a water pump, starter, and tune up. I bought the parts, they did the labor. I'm a female and once I find a great deal, I stick with that place. You might have to go and check around a bit, but I'll bet you that you can find someone who will give you a great deal. The guys around my area feel badly for women who are alone and don't have anyone to help them. You can also tell them the better the deal, the more of my friends I'll send to you. I do that too and make recommendation to my family and friends. They love it. Oh, don't forget to be sure to check the auto parts stores for the correct year and make of your car...and how many cylinders you have..4 or 6....or 8... Even many Kmart and Walmart stores have thermostats, which will save you money. The one I had replaced was only $5.99 and that was two years ago and I've never had another problem.

Depends on what car you have. On some cars the thermostat is an easy fix, on others there impossible to get too. I'd say the average price is about $26.00 if you buy the part FREE if you buy the part and a friend does it. I say $26.00 because that's what my shop would charge plus a %50 discount if you can show me an ARRP Card or you are a student enrolled, this would include shop time while you waited and had coffee and or hot chocolate which would be free while you relaxed. I work after hours because that's when most people need the work done __Automotive, The best thing is I'm medically retired so I work when I see someone needs help and can't afford Down Town Shop Prices and I get to work on what I choose without someone hanging over my head me making money for him, just in case you were wondering. I don't give out My Tele Number because I choose word of mouth. Good luck on your repair.

Absolute
Depending on the car make and engine thermostats can be very easly replaced in a short time. With transverse engines engine sits sideways the thermostat could be most anywhere. go to a garage and get an estimate then go to another garage for a second estimate. The average thermostat is about $10.00.
Hint what ever temperature thermostat is listed go the next one lower ( 195 go to 180 ) this will not hurt a thing and your car will heat up faster in the winter and reduce heat on the engine

Given the labor rate most places will charge I would say 50 bucks max. That is allowing for a 1/2 hour minimum service charge.

it all depends on what type of car you have. an easy one would be 80 parts and labor. hard one could be 300. need to know what it is to say.
