Not sure what kind of psychology. It is more common than you would think though, and not limited to males. I've seen girls who do the same thing. I wonder if it relates back to chasing looks rather than considering whether the person is suited to you?

He's a game player. What they like to do is win gals over, it makes them feel big strong and powerful. They like to play the game, and if unsuspecting gals finally do give in because they feel that this guy must really care for them, many times they dump them. It's similar to "Falling in Lust", thats where a guy, or gal sees someone that they feel they must have, so they patronize that person, untill they give in and make love to them, but afterwords the Lustor rejects the other person, because he has won his prize, and goes on to another target. Needless to say these are very imature individuals, to say the least.

Self destructive. He wants to be beaten, he wants to be down. I'd keep an eye on his mental health long term. I have a very dear friend who is the same way. Every now and then she slips into this terrible feeling of self worthlessness and becomes suicidal. I've saved her life twice in the past couple years.

It is mere admiration or attraction towards opposite sex.
Your friend isn't necessarily of a bad character but its just that he has a falling afinity for women. This is just born of his ardent inquisitiveness and the fact that he probably is still not aware of any conjugality.

Wow, I see that too! I think most of the time it's because a guy's so desperate for attention from a "popular" girl that any kind of attention, including her being mean, makes him feel like he's being accepted.

It could be low self-esteem or maybe he likes to be dominated.
Everyone has a choice as to how they want to be treated. He's choosing this. It's stupid, but everyone is allowed to do what they want.
Poor guy.

LOL... there is always something wrong with everyone, huh!! For real, though... my FIANCE used to be like that until I showed him what it was like to be with a great woman.... I would suggest stepping up to the plate and let him see what he is missing!
