I want to get a guitar to play with really. Nothing to fancy. I won't be playing for anyone besides myself..... How much should it cost, what brand, where do i get it, and do you know a good how-to book? Also, anything else i should know before buying? I don't really know how to play, but I am very musical... Thanks!

DO NOT SPEND LESS THAN $200!! If you really want to play, don't discourage yourself with cheap crap! You want to be able to strum a chord and then say, " Oh My God, that was me!!!!! Get a reasonably priced Alvarez. Alvarez will never let you down.
The key is, when you buy it, have the music store set it up for you. They are never perfect from the factory. People have so many different preferences, the manufacturors leave the setup for aftermarket. Good luck Guy. It's a long beautiful journey that you're embarking on!! BON VOUYAGE!!!!!!!!!!!

Just go into a reliable music store and speak to a salesman. Tell them you want something with a solid top though as they are a lot stronger and durable. Its probably worth spending a couple hundred bucks to avoid real cheap crap and if you don`t stick with it you have more chance of selling it. The sales guy/girl should also be able to help with a book too. There are books out now with cds or dvds attached which make things easier when you can see or listen to them! Good luck, practice everyday and be patient!

There are many different brands of guitars and you're just going to have to find what you're looking for to get any idea of how much you are willing to spend and how much the guitars cost. Try ebay or something similar.

It depends. I bought a brand new Harmony for $79.99. And it's a good quality guitar.

one hundred dollars + ought to get you something decent enough to learn to play on. i don't think i'd spend any less as it would probably cause you frustration.(tuning etc.) which is not conducive to learning. maybe a yamaha, epiphone, takamine, fender ... something like that on the lower end of their models
(costwise)

$70 sounds like a reasonable, not crappy, just ok guitar. besides, its a learner.
