I just found out that my really good friend has been cutting herself. More and more over the past couple months she became more distant, and withdrawn. She fell into a sort of depression over a guy, and I think it has stuck because of her (slightly) abusive mom. I found out tonight that she started cutting herself right before new years. I'm scared for her. I've been talking to her about all of this, and I guess I'm sorta playing therapist at the moment. What should I do?

If you can't tell her mom, tell your mom or the guidance counselor at school. SHE NEEDS HELP and to get away from her abusive mom will help for a start. Don't delay as she may cut too deep one day and then it will be too late.
THIS IS A CRY FOR HELP. NO MATTER what she says.
I've been through this with friends AND family before. TELL SOMEONE NOW before it is too late.

I would recommend you talk to your Friend's mom or dad and tell them about their daughter, and ask them if they have not noticed that their daughter is in very bad shape and needs immediate attention. In University, My daughter called a friend's mother, to inform her that her daughter had become very much anorexic. The girl was very petite to begin with and wore large, lose clothing so her condition was not noticeable for a very, long time. The mother lived in the other side of the country but flew in right away. She was shocked when she saw her daughter and took her home immediately. The girl was so bad she was hospitalized for months... The mother was very much upset that no one from the school had called her to make her aware of her daughter's problem. She was very thankful my daughter took action,
Talk to your friend's parents and make them aware of what is going on. If her parents are in denial and will not do anything about what is going on, then go to your school councilor, the Principal, a teacher, even your Family Doctor. If she is a danger to herself she can be legally committed. Trust your instinct and do not give up..This girl needs immediate help and attention physically and mentally. Your friend might become very upset if she finds out what you have done, but that is alright, one day she will thank you.. Do not let worry you now. My daughter's friend was very upset with her when she found out it had been my daughter that had called her Mom, but in the long run it worked out for the best, the girl got help.
You sound like a real nice friend.. God Bless You, Good Luck.

Over the last five years I had begun to have increasingly withdraw into a downward spiral of depression..

But now with the method I can fully focus my energy and thoughts into a decisive line on how to make my life better constantly. And it works like magic! I'm beginning to attract people to me once again and things have just been looking up since then.

Helping you eliminate depression?

We're actually learning about suicidal behaviour in Health Class. There can be many causes for cutting, and it may not always be suicidal. People do this because they feel that they can not get out of it, that they can't pull through their problem. You need to talk to her and tell her that things can get worse. Her mom can change, too. Don't spring the experts on her just yet. Talk to her about it first.

tell her to stop doing it, tell her the world won't stop turning and neither will the depression stop just because she's cutting herselg.
help her when you THINK she needs help, e e there for her, don't let her be by herself(in case she starts cutting herslelf again) ask her out, have fun, chat ,make her happy. distract her from thinking of all the negative things, ask her over for a sleepover party for only you and her. tell her to be strong inside and outside, cry out loud when she nees too:) good luck!

Tell people, therapist, counselor, anyone things like these are not meant to be kept a secret, your friend might feel betrayed but it's best that you tell someone.
