I think you will love it. I was born and raised there. Moved away only about 5 years ago. I lived beside the campus of TCU. There is a lot of fun things to do there, and the city is big, but not as big as other cities such as Dallas. Arlington is between them, and there is tons to do there. There are bad part in Fort Worth, just like there is in any large city. I don't think the crime will be as bas as Miami is. There are so many cities around Fort Worth, you will really like it. Best of luck to you.

I lived in Ft Worth for several years. The 820 loop goes around Ft W. I think it is pretty easy to get around town. It is spread out over a large area, and has many smaller towns within it, and around it. The area between Ft Worth and Dallas is totally developed and you couldn't tell without road signs where one town stops and another begins. You can have your choice of places to live. Some parts are more rural (farther from down town) and some are very urban. There is no shortage of retail stores and restaurants, night life, etc. If you already have a job there, try to start off on that side of town. Some parts have worse traffic than others, and of course, there is always construction. But there are tons of nice neighborhoods, so just drive around and see what you like. Homes are considerably less expensive there than other parts of the US. You can get a good buy there. The people are friendly and helpful ( Hey, it's Texas!) and having grown up in Houston, I'd move back to Ft Worth without a second thought. Not so with Houston.
Texans are really proud of and knowlegeable about Texas history, so be prepared to learn about it. I think it is the only state that can fly the lone star flag at the same height as the US flag. (all others fly below the stars and stripes) I'd say take a preview trip to get a little familiar with the area. Lots of people live in the surrounding communities and commute. Roads are good. Get a map and see for yourself. There are many lakes in the area with housing, if you like that. I am excited for you. You will enjoy it.
