First find the thickness: 1.75mm
http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/50sq_program/index.cfm?flash=yes&action=factsheet

1.75mm=0.175cm

So:
1 foot *(12 inch/foot)*(2.54 cm/inch)*(quarter/0.175cm)= 174.17 quarters in a foot stack.

Now, the Empire State Building is 1454 feet to the top of the spire. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empire_State_building
So:
1454 feet * 174.17 quarters/foot = 253245.25 quarters

A quarter is 1/16" thick. It take 16 to make 1". 12 x 16 = 192. 25 x 192 = $48.00
A stack as high as the Empire states building being 1250 feet.
192 x 1250 = 240,000 x 25 = $6,000,000.00

Well a quarter measures 1.75 mm in thickness, and there are approximately 300 mm in a foot, therefore if you divide 300 by 1.75, you get 171.43. So, looking at that, 171 quarters equal a foot.
