There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, and I personally challenge any individual who calls it the "wimpiest sport ever" to lace 'em up and give it a try. I don't see how whipping around at 30 mph with a rubber bullet flying at 100 mph ricocheting darn near anywhere, all players are carrying a potential weapon and have knives strapped to their feet, could be called wimpy.
Both of my daughters love it and there are organized teams and leagues, highly competitive college leagues (on both sides of the border) and very successful, competitive, fast, and entertaining olympic programs (again, on both sides of the border).
If you're enjoying yourself and love playing THE game. Do it and don't bother listening to those that call it down.
Keep your head up, on and off the ice, and leave the wannabees and couldneverbees well behind you!!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a girl and loving hockey. I don't play, my parents wouldn't let me (couldn't afford it after my brothers played) but I love watching it.
People that say its the whimpiest sport ever: first laugh in their face, ask them how many sports (not involving a car or an animal, thinking horseracing or polo) that two people collide at a fast speed, think about the momentum hockey players build up while skating. Then ask them how "whimpy" it is playing with a sharp blade at your feet, I can recall two players off the top of my head that have had their throats cut by another players skates, Clint Malarchuk (on the Sabres back in 1989) and Rene Bourque (2006). Also how many other sports are you allowed to hit a player and not get a "foul" or start a fight.
To those who say that you're just doing it to get close to boys....its like saying girls play volleyball to get close to other girls or something just as stupid as that. It's a perk don't get me wrong, but I'd like it even if it were girls playing as long as the hits were the same intensity.
To those who say you're part boy. Tell them to shove it! Just because a girl likes a male dominated sport doesn't mean shes part boy. It just means shes not a prissy little girl thats afraid to break a nail.
I'm a girl and I love hockey and if you have a problem with it...well thats your own issue not mine.

Nope, nothing wrong with that. People who tell you that are A) boring sports fans who enjoy baseball and NASCAR, B) chauvinists, or C) have fantasies of being with a hermaphodite. Sorry, couldn't come up with anything good with that one. lol
But, seriously, there is NOTHING wrong with being a girl and playing hockey. Some of the greatest hockey players are women and can play just as well as the guys. Cassie Campbell, Hayley Wickenheiser, Megan Agosta...I can even go as far back as Abignale "Abby" Hoffman who set records in a boys' league back in the '50s (I think the fifties...) until she came clean and admitted to being a girl while registering for the league's All-Star team. She was 8 or 9, I think, back then.

I'm a hockey fan that happens to be a girl. If you're a girl raised in a family that had hockey as a part of your LIFE than, you would know that hockey is not a whimpy sport. Hockey is not only a sport, it's a way of life. Any "hockey girl" knows this.

How is hockey a wimpy sport? You have to be really strong to play and in great shape, in the NHL that is. Also there are fights and hitting people, what could be better? I think hockey is the greatest sport in the world, I even play it and hit people pretty hard. I also like hockey girls.

I agree with you! Hockey is a Great sport. My sister, who started following Basketball because of the guys, watched a hockey Game with my Dad and I and was Amazed. You can't check in Basketball. It's probalby the toughest sport out there...
These Stupid stereotypes are no good anyway. If somebody tells you that again, threaten to check them. If they ask what that means, tell them to watch hockey.

what!! My best friend is a super intense hockey girl, and I know the sport is the most intense thing a girl can get involved in. Keep it up, no matter how many people hold you back. I mean, let's see.. you get crazy muscles, lifelong friends, not to mention a borderline cult, and lots and lots of opportunities to play for a private school team! Go for it- stay with it!!

There's nothing worng with being a hockey girl! I am a total sports chick & hang with other sports chicks. I love hockey, Indy racing, and motorcycles! I played soccer and lacrosse in high school. I don't cook, knit, or do windows.
Do what you want and enjoy the heck out of it. Truthfully, the nay-sayers are jealous and scared of you. They know you could kick their butts!

I don't think there is anything wrong with being a hockey girl. If you love hockey who cares what people think.

The ones that say option A are obviously not fans of hockey and haven't seen some good matches.
