every day I get tons of "friend" requests from random strangers I've never met. according to their pictures, they are all hot girls.

but i'm not stupid. i know these are just spam. i usually delete them before i even look at them. i've clicked on a few of them to see the "girl's" profile just to make sure what I'm deleting is spam, and sure enough it's pretty obvious: they have created a fake profile describing some hot young thing, and then a link to a dating website or something saying "come see me on this site" and it's obviously just a ploy to get gullible myspace users to sign up for these online dating sites and lose their money.

what i want to know is: is it really worth these spammers' time to send out all these fake spam friend requests. i'd imagine it would take a lot of time to create all these fake profiles and then send out friend requests to so many guys on myspace. is it really economical for them to do this? is anyone gullible enough? howcome myspace doesnt stop it?

Yes it is worth their time.Years ago before the internet you could buy names on labels to send out your spam. Advertising in mags. was worth it. The higher the subscription # the more the mag charged for ads. Check Popular Mechanics. We always figured that if you got 1/2 % return from a mag you were doing extremely well. The same with the spam. You can but cd's with thousands of e-mail addresses and you can buy programs on how to send out your spam. I do not know about my space but most spam will have an embedded code that will link any reply to the product to the person that sent it out and that is how they get paid There are thousands plus people out there who will respond to the ads in spam other wise it would go by the wayside. Just do not open it !!!!

Myspace is huge. I have an account there, but never use it. It might be getting spammed too. I would assume it's just like spamming email.

Even the creating of "hot" profiles probably doesn't take all that long with a good computer and with pictures at the ready. And they can probably send a bazillion of those out at a single clip. Spammers program their computers to "find" user names. Not terribly hard. Might be an intitial expenditure of time and effort, but the effects are far reaching. A small percantage of bites and it will pay off for them.

The bottom line is if it didn't pay off they wouldn't do it.

unfortunately people manager to get a hold of friend adders that automatically send out random requests- if you get one, be sure to report them to customer care at myspace. they are doing their best to keep the site free of spammers and would appreciate any help from the users!

I get those also. About 10 of them a day, supposedly from the same person. I am sure it is just a bunch of bums who can't find anything better to do with their lives. I call them the sluts of myspace.

There are computer programs that automatically send you the message.

MySpace can't really stop these spam robots.
