If someone says "nut-job liberal," I laugh. Because, more then likely their values have been turned upside down and their only way at fighting back is going on a personal attack. Of course I use the term conservative, if I want to bring up a conservative platform - but rarely do I use it as an attack.

I think it's just words people throw around because they don't know what they really mean.
It's popular to call republicans con's and democrat's libs.
The fact is being a republican doesn't make you a conservative anymore than being a democrat makes you a liberal. I know many republican who are liberal and vice-a-versa.
There are also far left liberals, moderate liberals, and liberals who lean to the right.
Same goes for conservatives.
So it really shouldn't hurt anyone's feelings, especially on a site like YA since no one on here really knows squat about any one else's beliefs.

words words words. Depends on what you mean by liberal or conservative but generally I don't think too much of conservatives. COnservatives generally refer to people who prefer status quo while liberals are generally considered (without any stand). But thats really being stereotypical. To me, being a liberal is about anything for justice and human rights amongst other principles... And in certain countries, the people in liberal party are not liberals either...

NO it shouldn't the terms refer to your political beliefs and views just like Communist , Liberal and Conservative are just words that describe something, neither is a slur. at its core Liberalism believes in more laws and more government, in contrast Conservatism believes in less laws less government and more personal responsibility. look at the bills supported by each side and you will notice an underlying theme. however current Republicans are becoming more liberal and the liberals are becoming even more so. which screws up the balance .

I don't think so. It doesn't bother me when people call me a conservative, but I do hate it when they make assumptions as to what being a conservative means. I also hate it when they mistakenly presume that I'm a Republican. I am not.

It's the tone or the intention. As soon as people try and treat it like an insult, I get irritated.

it shouldn't...but you wouldn't be a true liberal if you feeling didn't get hurt by words...they don't follow the nursery rhyme "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me"
