The federal government doesn't build schools.

The federal education budget has increased from:
38.44 billion in 2000 to
88.85 billion in 2006

That's the largest increase in funding of any president in history for education funding.

Compare that to the last administration:
32.31 billion in 1992
38.44 billion in 2000

I think that bush is spending billions of dollars on Iraq so he can get more oil, which is really stupid because i know that some kids out there need a better education.

Quite simply there is more $$$ to be made from wars than there is from schools...

Besides the government program is for the dumbing down of students so they will believe what the government tells them and not question what is going on...It may not be the 1984 novel but it is mighty close too it...just remember "new think" and "new speak". If you haven't read 1984 I suggest you do...it is the world of today.

Maybe he is afraid the schools would all be blown up if we "cut & run."

Many people are very afraid of many more 9/11's, dirty bombs and anthrax poisonings all across the country if we back out, looking weak. What good will a few extra school houses do us if that kind of thing happened?

This may be a paranoid perspective, but I prefer to think of someone as paranoid than evil.

You ignorant woman. He's spending money on Iraq to keep us safe! We have schools here in America, nit! I'm sure he'd rather not have to send our troops to battle. Nobody likes war, but sometimes it's very necessary. Here's a clue--- Bush didn't send them, or make them go. We have what we call A VOLUNTEER MILITARY here in America.

WHY does Oprah build schools for kids in Africa and not for our kids? WHY do celebrities have all this money and yet blame is always put on the President, whether he be Republican or Democrat? To give you an answer you would like to here....I guess Bush hates American children.

He is reaping benefits from the war in Iraq, he could care less about the American people and what is needed he would rather fatten his and other already rich people wallets then educate kids. This has always been a repuglican trait.

If the liberals would let us just go ahead, win, and go on, it wouldn't be a problem. Incidently, the young people in my neighborhood who've come home from serving in Iraq are much stronger, more confident people than when they left. I.e., for them it was the perfect educational experience.

Building schools is not a Federal mandate. That is a state and local responsibility. If there aren't enough schools where you are, take it up with your governor.

You make a very good point. I'd love to know why Bush touted the no child left behind bill, but then refused to fund it. I wouldn't mind seeing the 20,000 troops sent to guard our borders. Yeah, the same borders that are still wide open.
