If so, what might be a name of a church off its coast? Also, what, at that time, was the dominant religion of England? Oh, and If you were to go from Enlgand to the Netherlands, would you go by boat (over the ocean)? Help with any of these questions would be wonderful!!

I will assume that you are talking of Holland and that by "late 1500's" you mean the end of the 16th century.

That being so, Calvinism is the 1st answer. the English religion in 1st place is the Church of England, founded by Henry VIII. This is not to say that there were no other citizens of these countries belonging to others. (the Dutch have a long history of religious toleration). The Dutch were at this time, at least in part, fighting for there political freedom from the Empire of Spain. This was prompted in part by Spanish insistence on Roman Catholic orthodoxy and conformity among its citizens.

Because of this state of war getting to Holland from England would be most easily accomplished by ship.

This matter of a church offshore puzzles me, The only image that came to mind, was Mont Ste. Michelle and that's off France.
