I thought President Clinton made a convincing case for the war in Iraq, which he began building during his first campaign and made clear while he was still president--we have to finish the job of deposing Saddam, WMD's, etc. When Kerry and Bush both said it I was thoroughly convinced. Bush was a Johnny Come Lately on the war drum and I wouldn't have believed him alone. Oddly, as soon as he started to say it, Democrats expressed reservations, then they VOTED FOR IT, then immediately said we couldn't win a war there. Then and now, in switching their opinion based on the opposite of whatever Bush said, it destroyed all Democrat credibility in my eyes. What are your views on Democrats?

I'm thoroughly amused by the people today who celebrate Bush admitting blame, and then in the next breath beg us to stop placing blame only when Democrats are exposed. Hilarious, too, are the ones here who re-write history by claiming that it was Bush who came up with WMD's instead of Clinton before him. :)

For those asking why the question is relevant, credibility is always relevant to today's situation. Those who refused to listen to Bush's plan, mischaracterizing it as something we tried before did so because of trust issues. Yet only Bush has been consistent, and it is the Democrats who got us into this war and cannot admit it. Therefore, trust issues on who to believe and what to do.

Great to hear someone talking about what nobody on yahoo answers wants to hear; that invading Iraq didn't start with George W. Bush.

The Iraq Liberation Act of 1998 was voted for unanimously by every democrat and republican that made it the stated policy of our government to take out Saddam.

I am waiting to see if there is a investigation as to who said what our C,I,A, at first said there wereW,MD, in Iraq and gave this intel, to Bush who in return told senate and congress , and supplied them with the reports, then our C,I,A said the intel, came from the Israli Mossad, I feel there should be a through investigation and fined who did what and why, so far the only thing I can see that we have accompolished is to rid Israel of their worst enemy,or will this be another cover up same as the attack on the USS LIBERTY the men who were aboard this ship has begged for a investigation for nearly 39 years, but is always blocked by the Israeli lobby, why??

Well Bush is deciding to send in more troops. Now perhaps instead of thinking who convinced americans to invade Iraq, it's time to think how NOT to increase the troops. The way to build a democratic society in Iraq is not through military intervention. The civil war thats happening in Iraq is in a mess now and probably no one knows how to go about solving the problem. Maybe the UN?

Clinton, etc. felt we needed to do something about Iraq but favored continued containment and a political and diplomatic solution....not a military one. Congress voted to give Bush war powers based on him letting the UN inspectors finish their job and believing him when he lied about wmds. The dems were always right.

First Bush presented what he knew to be lies..as truth
Second the over whelming majority who bought his lies were Republicans.
Third On March 19, 2003, the day we invaded a country that was no threat to us, G.W. Bush sent a letter to Congress in which he stated that the war was permitted under legislation authorizing force against those who "planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001."

It's a matter of public record, in black and white, with Bush's signature at the bottom.

Do we really want to continue to attempt to place blame, or move forward and find a solution? How can either party work with the other when name calling and finger pointing leads the way? We don't need villains, we need solutions.
