I have a family member who refuses to stop send mail to me and my family. They state they will continue to harass me until I respond. I broke off contact with this person years ago and want nothing to do with them, what legally can I do to stop this nightmare. I get something from them 3 times a week. Help?!?

Get a restraining order. It will cost you a little money for the restraining order and they are usually for a year. After the RO is in place, the next letter or call you receive, you tell the judge and the person is in violation of the RO. Depending on the laws of your state the person will either be picked up right away or they will be tagged in the system and if they get pulled over or anything it shows up against them and then they would get arrested then. I would ask any and all questions when you go to get the restraining order so you will know what to expect. Getting a restraining order is technically a "response" to their harassment so maybe they'll leave you alone. Good Luck!

# A person who is a victim of harassment may seek a restraining order from the court. The person or guardian of a minor who is the victim of harassment may seek a restraining order on behalf of the minor. The restraining order prohibits harassment. A restraining order may be issued against an individual who has engaged in harassment, or against organizations which have sponsored or promoted harassment.

# Harassment includes:

1. Repeated, intrusive, or unwanted acts, words, or gestures that are intended to adversely affect your safety, security, or privacy, regardless of the relationship between you and the alleged harasser;
2. Targeted residential picketing, which includes:
1. marching, standing, or patrolling by one or more persons directed solely at a particular residential building in a manner that adversely affects the safety, security, or privacy of an occupant of the building, and
2. marching, standing, or patrolling by one or more persons which prevents an occupant of a residential building from gaining access to or exiting from the property on which the residential building is located.
3. A pattern of attending public events after being notified that one's presence is harassing to another.

go report them for harassment. it would help if you keep some of the stuff they send you to take to the police. also if they call you keep a log of the calls.

you can probably get a restraining order. of course, they have to violate it before they can get arrested though.
