64-bit are processors of x64 architecture and 32-bit processors of x86 architecture, 64-bit is supposed to be faster, the problem is the compatibility: Is not very easy to get drivers for 64-bit. Most computers are 32-bit so If you are going to buy a notebook you the extra expense is not worth it.

hope it helps!

So the 64 bit OS is designed to work on a processor with a 64 bit wide address/IO bus, where as the 32 bit OS is designed to work on a processor with a 32 bit wide bus. In the windows world you can usually run the 32 bit OS on a 64 bit machine but not the other way around..All things being equal the 64 bit machines will process twice as much address and I/O data as a 32 bit machine and hence are considered faster ..

And may be if your application is not I/O bound at a peripheral device..

for starters: it doesn't run on my notebook, since I don't have one :)
A 64 bit operating system isn't twice as fast as a 32 bit operating system, only in theory it is. It has to do with the way the Central Processing Unit (CPU, or the processor) can handle assignments. You do need a 64 bit-capable CPU for a 64 bit operating system. And (as long as it wasn't written by a company in Redmond) it is as stable as any 32 bit operating system. But not too many programs for Windows are 64 bit-capable, though the number is growing fast.

64 bit OS's are 2x faster than 32 bit, but 64 bit is currently less stable than 32 bit (not by much.) If you install a 64 bit OS then you need a 64 bit capable processor.

... the main drawback to the 64bit OS is lack of driver and software support at this time ...
