is it true that the guy can't ask the girl to winter fromal, and that the girl is the one who asks?
because my friend likes a girl and wants her to go with him to winter formal, but she doesn't know that he likes her because she doesn't really know him, so he's not sure about asking her. what should he do??

If it's called winter formal then it's definitely appropriate for him to ask her. If it was called "turn-about" then it's the girl's job to do the asking. Sounds to me like he's too shy to ask her so he's just going to wait & see if she asks him. Tell him to take some intitiative & ask her before another guy does.
The issue isn't whether or not she likes him & wants to go with him. It's this guy gaining enough confidence to put himself out there & take a risk. Rejection or not, it's a learning experience.
