Yes, female animals go 'into heat' and the cycle depends on the breed/species. Having your pet spayed stops this but otherwise they have their periods and the hormone fluctuations that go along with them. Animals can also sense when you are having yours so be careful who you call a ***** ; )

Yes, they do. Every six months, give or take a week or two. Yes, it usually lasts for 3 weeks. And they don't go into menopause like humans do; they keep having cycles till they die of old age.

If she isn't a registered breed you are using to professionally breed pups, it is best, for you and your dog, to get her spayed. They do not suffer the way humans do with hormone issues if you have them spayed. It will solve and prevent other health issues as they age. You can find spay clinics at some vetrinarians or your local SPCA that charge less for spaying. It is cheaper to wait until she is no longer in heat, but you will have to wait for about 3 months after the start of her cycle as it takes that long for all internal organs to get back to normal. Check with your vet on the best time for your dog's breed.

If you want to keep your dog inside, get them doggy pants from the pet store. Buy two so you can use one while the other is being laundered. You can use regular women's sanitary pads inside the doggy pants. Buy the self-adhesive kind and you can use scissors to trim to size. We purchased a denim type of doggy pants for our dog and jokingly say she looks hot in her jeans.

If you're definitely talking about dogs -- yes -- they come into heat every 6 months. Basically just like clock-work. And, yes, for about 2-3 weeks. They actually come into heat a few days before they actually start bleeding ... you will notice that their genital area becomes swollen and bright-pink looking. Then, 2-3 days later, they start bleeding.

Of course they do! Only when animals have their periods...it's called going into heat and they don't have it every month like we do, different animals have different cycles. When their egg isn't fertilized (just like us) the lining gets expelled....i.e. bleeding.

Yes that is true. Females have to have a menstruation and ovulation period to procreate.
