Ironic that you ask about Heather, because a lot of the shades of Heather are in purple shades!
Heather is a shrub that is usually low growing. It does have flowers, and when it's in bloom, it is almost entirely covered in tiny little flowers.
You can grow Heather in most climates and they require full sun, and moderate watering. They make a lovely addition to other plantings because of their profuse flowering.
There are generally 2 types of Heather you can buy (the latin name is Calluna Vulgaris) Winter or Summer. Using both will give you a splash of color in both the Spring and fall.

Yes. Purple or white hlowers, in winter, spring or summer, depending on the variety. They like free draining acid soil. Also called ericas or heaths.
