The "war on drugs" is just another example of prosecuting a victimless crime that enriches the government at the expense of the "criminal." A small amount of weed in your possession - or your partner's possession without your knowledge - could result in your house and vehicles being confiscated. I wonder whether those other answerers were aware of that?
The Patriot Act gives the government the right to track your purchases, your travel, your library usage, your phone calls and e-mails, your Internet usage, all in secret. It also gives the president the right to take your firearms, imprison you without a trial and without access to an attorney for an indefinite period of time without charging you with a crime, sieze your assets without due process, force you to spy on your neighbors. It gives law enforcement personnel the right to enter and search your home without your knowing it, copy your hard drive and never tell you.
This is not about pursuing terrorists. This is about establishing a police state. Were you also aware that by May of 2008, we will all be required to carry identity cards? And that's only the beginning.... go to http://www.freedomtofascism.com to learn more.

They will abolish it when the druggies quit breaking the law. They will repeal the Patriot Act when there is no more threat of terrorism, or they pass something better. Druggies won't stop breaking the law, terrorism won't go away, and Congress will never pass anything more effective than the Patriot Act (though they might argue about it for decades), so don't hold your breath.

When you stop using drugs, it will be abolished. I have a feeling you have no idea what the Patriot Act even entails. It's just a keyword that people complain about

not soon enough. i agree with you. this has had many years to prove it is another foolish decision. It seems our government attempts brain surgery with a meat cleaver. Actually, our government is best parodied by the Procrustean bed where one size, indeed, fits all.

When the prisoners do their job and kill all of the rapists and pedofiles that were sent there to die.
Maybe if something is against the law, you should stop doing it to stay out of prison. Has that ever occured to you?
