What is it called in a large home kitchen/dining room where you have a long counter that sticks out, with a space under it for chairs/legs, where people can sit and eat. I don't think its called a bar, but its pretty much like that. Its something that you'd find in a rich person's house probably rather than a little house. I just don't know what its called.

It's called a"Breakfast Island" if it sits unattached in the center of the room, and a "Breakfast Peninsula" if it projects out from the wall "Base Cabinets", or just a "Breakfast Bar". I have a 1450 square foot home and I have one. Believe me I'm NOT rich.

It sounds like a long counter that sticks out. As long as there is food on it who would care what it is called. I have heard this refered to as Island, Peninsula, Bar and just plain old counter.

An Island. If you are talking about the actual countertop that is wider to accomodate seating, they call that an overhang.
