Use a warm towel on your neck for a bit before you put on the shaving cream, or better yet, have after you get out of the shower when the hair follicles have softened and you'll get a closer shave. Use a good quality shaving cream that's also soothing. Nivea has a line out for men's skin, try it out. Shave downwards only, and put some cream on afterwards.

An experimental thought is to slide an ice cube over your neck right after you've finished shaving to cool down the skin, then dry it and cream it...I don't think there's any harm in trying it out. :)

do you use an electric shaver?if you do you should only shave your face with the electric and use a regular razor on your neck and rather than use shaving cream use a skin lotion or petroleum jelly.shave your neck gently the problem you are having is from pulling the hairs out as you shave.

Soak a face cloth in really hot water then apply it to your face for about 15 seconds. This will open up the pores and make for a smoother shave. Also use sensitive shave gels (not cream) make sure your blades are sharp and you use aftershave gels with built in moisturiser. Good luck!

I have the same problem. I keep my hair very short and whenever I shave the hair off the back of my neck it gets very red and itchy. My doctor prescribed fluocinonide, it works wonders. It gets rid of most skin rashes and blemishes, it is kind of expensive and you need a prescription to get it.

The simplest solution is to stop shaving. The very act in itself is somewhat unnatural.

"LEONATO
You may light on a husband that hath no beard.

"BEATRICE
What should I do with him? dress him in my apparel and make him my waiting-gentlewoman? He that hath a beard is more than a youth, and he that hath no beard is less than a man: and he that is more than a youth is not for me, and he that is less than a man, I am not for him…"

—William Shakespeare - Excerpt from 'Much Ado About Nothing' – Act 2, Scene I

"There are two kinds of people in this world that go around beardless—boys and women, and I am neither one."
—Greek saying
