The green mile was a better movie. (Rita Hayworth and the) Shawshank Redemption was a better book. I guess what I mean is that they did a better job of making the green mile into a movie than they did with Shawshank.

The Shawshank Redemption has a more realistic plot and a great cast. But, the Green Mile is more Godly and has a lot of fiction in it. I love them both but I pick Shawshank Redemption. Plus, Morgan Freeman is a great actor!

I've never seen The Shawshank Redemption but I loved the Green Mile because of the cute little mouse, Mr. Jingles! Mice are so cute!! Ok, I know this is never going to get best answer, but it was fun anyway.

They are both excellent movies, and (this is important to me, being the geek that I am) they both followed the original works impressively well. Not exactly, but the Shawshank Redemption was originally a novella, and they did an excellent job with what they had to work with.
If I had to pick, I'd say Shawshank Redemption, just because...well, Morgan Freeman, and also, simply because it has such an excellent moral.
