Okay, 1/3 * 1/4 is 1/12. 1 x 1 is 1, and 3 x 4 is 12. You just multiply fractions across.

1/3 x 1/4 = 1/12
Multiply the numerators together; then multiply the denominators together; reduce the fraction if possible (this one is not reducible).

the word "of" always translates to the arithmetic operator "x". therefore 1/3 of 1/4 = 1/3 x 1/4 = 1/12.
