Whatever happened to the fully self-sustainable Military that we used to have? Cutting off funding to such tax payer gouging entities should be next on Congresses agenda.

And what can anyone do about it. They've gotten billions (mostly on no-bid contracts) and Congress did nothing about it(of course The Repubs were in charge then). My guess is that the newly elected politicians won't do anything either. I do get some semblance of comfort in knowing that the troops are going to be fed three squares a day (aren't they)?
Nevertheless our government continues to give the appearance of corruption. Surely there are other companies that proviide the same or similar services as Halliburton.

Halliburton won a competitive bid to provide logistics to the army in Iraq, it was not a no bid contract( the no bid was the oil field services contract).
When the army was cut from 18 divisions down to 11 divisions in the 1990's, choices had to be made, the army decided it was more important to maximize combat troops and outsource some non combat related services.
KBR, now a division of Halliburton, has been doing military contracting since they built Cam Ranh Bay during Vietnam. KBR was owned by Lady Bird Johnson's family at the time.
Halliburton received a no bid contract for logistics in the 1990's to support American forces in the Balkans.

Just remember, you cannot pay a civilian contractor cook $5.15 an hour, like McDonald's does, not to work in Iraq.

Because the Clinton administration starting doing military cutbacks, and outsourced everything. The military doesn't run their own supply, laundry, cleaning, meals, ect. Halliburton (KBR) isn't the only government contractor. There are literally hundreds of them from many different countries. Also, KBR was doing government contracts long before Cheney was with Halliburton, so everyone needs to chill out with the election time conspiracy theories. So where do you get your information from? The media? I'm in Iraq now......and we've learned that not everything the media says is true. Think about that.
