I am now, today, 61, and have retired on a limited budget. I do not want to devote my time to "those less fortunate", though I do have great sympathy for them. Has anyone got any idea what I might involve myself in, other than Yahoo Answers?

Sorry, insufficient information.
I'm single (divorced so long ago it doesn't matter) do read, and I do have a couple of hobbies.
iluafric - I am entirely in phase with "don't just sit around and get old", and that is EXACTLY, on the button, what I'm afraid of. I've seen so many men settle into a comfortable and dying routine, and get older by the minute.
Tonight someone asked me how old I was - I told him, and, honestly ( I know because he challenged a friend of mine apart from me, and I was told), he thought I was kidding and was "at least" 10 years younger.
Flattering, and nice, but I worry-----------God, it would be so easy to get "old".

Sports maybe? For instance you could get into all of the different goings on in the NFL for the different teams. Who is hired and fired, what teams sign who and draft who. Then get into the why of it. Then when next football season comes around you could do a little wagering, nothing pricey or anything, but kinda as a contest to see if you've learned enough to be able to pick the winners of games. Something to make it worth while and add a little interest.

Or you could do something like learn to write in Chinese. Learn to make things out of clay. Study the stock market and learn how to become a day trader. If you are single, perhaps see how many different women you can get a first date with. If you are married you could try to find or put together something special for your wife each week or month.

Happy Birthday!
I suggest you pass on your knowledge to people, preferably the next generation, or the generation after that. You still have quite a long time ahead of you. I suggest you also get a hobby. You probably have one, but I suggest you spend time on it. For example, if you like writing, write a novel. If you're into reading, read a book. Lots of options.
Congradulations on your 61th birthday. May all your wishes come true!

Get another job? I don't know. How about a hobby? Take what you like to do and build on that.
