I'm taking a class right now called Theory of Knowledge right now and it's basically a class taught through discussion about where knowledge comes from, how we attain knowledge, how knowledge affects us, etc. It's a really great class. Anyway, on the first day, the teacher asked us to list ten things we know and how we know them. I was just wondering what other people would say.

So. Tell me ten things you know and how you know them. Think about it.

(Don't worry, I won't bash any answers; I just want to see what people say.)

Enjoy the IB! ToK was one of my most dreaded courses, but on the other hand, it's a handly 3 point boost isn't it? The course is trying to make you question the way in which you know things - so if you say something about religion, or science, or any other field that is based upon a discourse, you'll be fine.

Here's my take
1. I know that I am currently answering your question because I am typing it and here
2. I know that I like to eat chocolate because when I do it, my mouth salivates and I get warm and cushy feelings
3. I know that the color of my shirt is black because it reflects wavelengths that correspond to black only
4. I know that my keyboard is covered in dust because I can see what appears to be dust on it
5. I know that the letter I received today is from my College because it bears the signature of one of its signatories
6. I know that I am tired because my eyes are droopy
7. I know that I ate a turkey sandwich for lunch today because I bought what looked and tasted to be one
8. I know that one of hte classes I had today was about globalization because that was the name of the course
9. I know that it was cold today because I had to wear a coat
10. I know, therefore I.B. (touche ToK)

1. I know everything happens for a reason, because good or bad when anything happens it always works out in the end.
2. I know Karma exists because its kicked my butt and I have seen it kick other peoples butts. I have also reeped the rewards.
3. Marriage is a scam because all it is, is a peice of paper with 2 signatures on it that cost a load of money and aggravation to sign. The flowers die, the dresses get thrown in a closet, the band plays another gig and the honeymoon ends. Then you spend even more money to sign another peice of paper to cancel out the first one. Live together in love, have parties, go on vacation a peice of paper doesnt make your love true. Because I have been married twice.
4. I know that research, or just stepping back and analyzing a situation will always be the best in the end. A compulsive reaction will more often than not worsen the whole thing and make for more problems because I have screwed myself reacting and helped myself anaylzing.
5. I know that the government is a conspiracy, voting for a president is useless it is all fixed because the popular candidate in the media ends up losing anyway to the person who gets bashed more, and because of research and seeing the inconsistancies. The first flight into the towers was Q33 NY. Go to word, raise the font size, highlight it, and change the font to wingdings, coincidence...I think not.
6. I know the difference between a stroke, a heart attack, athsma and a panic attack because I am a trained EMT and besides the books, the streets are a better tool.
7. I know most of what you learn in school is useless, because more often than not even a college graduate doesnt end up in the feild they spent all that money getting a degree for. The streets are a better tool. I didnt even graduate HS and spent 5 months in a class that enables me to stabilize a cardiac arrest, or a major trauma before a doctor even see's them.
I cant think of anything right now, my 3 kids are asleep and I should be too. But bottom line knowledge comes from experience, is attained by living and paying attention to what happens around you, and the effects on you will depend on the situation and outcome you learned from.

1. I know I can't come up with a list of 10 things I know. Why? Because:
a) I've tried before (I took Intro to Philosophy, and we did the same exercise)....
b) (despite Oprah's "what I know for sure," lol) there is no "for sure"; everything is speculation based on feeling and past experience.

Ten things I know

I am here because I am the only thing in this world I know I have experienced.

There is existance, because I am here.

Something came before me, because I came from somewhere.

That's all really.

All ten of the things I "know" all relate to my family or my life. Everything I think I know comes from books, teachers, internet, faith, and other sources.
