2. this confuses me becase i thought a continent WAS the land mass meaning all the continents (asia, africa, australia, antarctica, north america, south america & europe) are 'Located on a single land mass'.. because technically all continents have little islands or parts of the continent that arent connected..

That would be the Irish Potato famine, and Asia, Africa and Europe are one giant land mass, although Asia and Europe are more firmly together.
