I have been working out and have always had minor lower back pain but nothing really painfull just when I use my back to lift heavy objects rather than using my legs. But now my back pain has turned into being really painfull. I have a constant throbbing of pain in my lower back and when I sit for long periods of time and then get up it feels stiff and holy s***t is it sore! Also while I am sitting or even standing to stretch my hamstrings and I lean forward I feel deep pain in my lower back as if a knife was goin through it. Now I already have an appointment for a doctors visit but based on what I have said here and going off of your past back pains what does this mostly sound like? It never use to be this bad. I use to be able to move around, run, jump, quick turns but now it just hurts way too bad. Could this be a bad lower back muscle pull or does it sound like something more and worst case maybe needs surgery. All your thoughts are greatly appreciate. Thanks

it sounds like the pain may be muscular in nature. try stretching your back. lay on your stomach, leave your hips on the floor and do a sort of push up- it's called a curl up- your spine should kind of curl. remember to keep your hips on the floor. also, you could try stretching backwards over an exercise ball. Most back problems that require surgery don't cause pain in the back- usually the pain is in the legs. Still, I would get checked by a doctor just to make sure- it could be something serious.

Lets not talk surgery. Try ice, the first 72 hrs. ice 20 min. on 1 hr. off as often as possible. Then use heat pad for in between after that. Take advil and soak in epsom salts. If you ever had back pain as you age it will usually get worse and sometinmes being active can aggrivate it. It usually is a pinched nerve. A chiropractor can fix it pretty quick. Also when it flares up do the ice, heat soak and it will get better unless you have a herniated disk but, ai'd try doing the conservative treatment first. Ice is the amazing inflammation destroyer. Also, you may want to use a girdle for exercising in the future to p[rotect the back. It is worth not having this happen again. Good luck. Almost forgot, you have to rest for a while and some massage even by you to get the blood to that ara is a good thing to do. You caan lie on your tummy and lift the hurting side leg up off the floor at the hip and try to make small circles. Then bigger and then stretch it in all directions holding it in stretch for a few seconds as you go around. If you can do this several times a day it will help too. Sounds like tha Sciatica nerve is being pinched by some inflammed muscle spasms.

It could be a muscle strain that you just keep aggravating, or it could be a disk bulging because of degeneration or injury aggravated. Only the doctor will be able to accurately diagnose you. Regardless, there are lots of conservative treatment options that can and should be tried before surgery, such as physical therapy or epidural injections to help relieve the inflammation. If you aren't having pain or numbness in your legs that's a good sign that nothing is pressing on a nerve.

Good luck.

You've strained your lower back muscle. Lower back pains are the most common pain in work outs, so you'll need to train it too. See how it went with the doctor. If it's okay, go to a massage parlour and explain to the masseuse about your problem. After you feel better, train your lower back with some back-ups or dead lifts.

Go to this website and see if your symptoms match

Spondylitis is severely under diagnosed and if you have it you want to get on medication ASAP.
