If you give him the money you will never get it back. So, you decide. Is he worth the price he's asking? He's most likely just going back in anyway. If he makes bail that just means he's on the street until the hearing. If he jumps bail, which most druggies do, then you will NEVER see the money or him again. I say no. How good of a friend is this? I'm betting he sent the same letter to 10 other people.

I don't think there's any right or wrong thing to do here. If you're close with him and wouldn't mind putting up the money once (and only once) you wouldn't be a bad person for doing it, but you're by no means obligated to, no matter how close you are with him. There's also nothing wrong with your "did the crime do the time" feeling. In the end it's totally up to your discretion, and if it's going to cost you a ton of money, it's not worth it because you probably won't get it back. Simply tell him you can't afford it. Good luck.

Emm.. if you don't think he should get out so easily or want to pu your money up then of course the answer is no. Not sure why your asking for opinions when you already know how you feel about it. One of my best friends is in jail right now and I am trying to raise bail money for him. But I sympathize greatly with what he did. I would rather bail him out so he can get back to work and support his kids.

You're right, he did the crime so he should do the time! If you do bail him out, he'll think that you'll help him every time he gets into trouble. I would let him sit in jail & think about the crimes that he committed. Maybe he'll won't make the same mistake in the future because he'll know the consequenses of his actions.

I know we are always torn between helping friends or not helping friends in general. But to help him out of a situation he caused by breaking the law especially because of the drugs, i'd simply say...sorry i don't have the money, so it's not like you're really saying no.

He needs to get off he drugs. What better place. You will be doing them a favor more by leaving them there than getting them back out and then they get into more trouble. If you post bail and the person doesn't show up YOU LOSE YOUR MONEY !! Druggies will promise and tell u anything to get free to use. LET THEM SIT>!!!!

If you bail him out, he will never learn. He will think that he can always call him to get him out of trouble. Let him learn his lesson. Besides, hes not your son - he is not your responsibility. Why doesnt he ask his parents?
