I wish I knew. I'd tend to agree about the abuse thing. I was abused as a child and I am often very submissive and I avoid conflict when I can. Sometimes maybe it could be a strong/strict father or father figure possibly?

It is interesting to hear that other people say abuse makes one submissive because: I have a friend who's parents yelled a lot, etc, and she is more dominant-sometimes sadistic even, and fights back when she needs to.
So I think that oftentimes children turn out like their parents.
My parents are more quiet, especially my mother. She is protective and quiet and it downright annoys me. However I found that that is probably why I am quiet, and I suppose submissive.

Yes, the usual culprit, during childhood, is a form of abuse named "invalidation." It's kinda like brain-washing, where a persons feelings gets so ignored or dismissed that they start believing other people more than themselves. The cycle starts there.

Yes! I have read that when the mother is domineering....bitta....the son comes out pretty messed up when it comes to his relationships.
He has problems in the bed & is pretty much a simpering, wimpering fool!! Run from a mamma's boy!!
