Historically, every great military or political power has enjoyed a long, yet limited, period of dominance. Consider the Egyptian Pharaohs, the Roman Empire, and more recently (historically speaking) the British Empire.
Almost daily, we are seeing evidence of the USA's fall from grace.
How long, in your estimation, does the U.S. have until total economic or political collapse (or both)??

Yes, history tells us that the U.S. will fall. I think it will be about 50 years, when China is ready to dominate. Look at how China is preparing. Just the other day, there was news about the U.S.'s biggest trade deficit ever with China. China has the world's largest oil reserves. China is preparing to update it's military technology to match the U.S. military, supposedly in case the U.S. decides to defend Taiwan (China already has the largest standing military). China still needs to improve it's political structure and human rights issues. The sleeping elephant is about to awake. Inevitable, Very Scary.

Britain is definitely not yet dead, nor even so rapidly falling from "grace" as is the general opinion of the USA.
I believe that the "people" of the USA still have the ability to turn around a nasty situation if the "administration" can be persuaded.
To my knowledge the USA has never been described as an "Empire".
There are still good people who can DO something if they act quickly.

It breaks my heart but froggy's doomsday scenario is somewhat true. We are the only nation to ever use nukes on another country. That is debt we will eventually have to pay.
**** Cheney's public strategy for overthrowing Iran does include tactical nuclear strikes. Also he specifically lays out that any domestic attack against the US should be countered with the destruction of Iran. Regardless if Iran is responsible or not.
Scary stuff. I think one year is a little unrealistic. But once we use nukes (again) there will horrifying consequences. Conservatives reading this - how do you not realize that you are the same masses who have legitamize imperialistic crimes against humanity over and over throughout history.
You know when reading history text how there is that group of people who you wonder, how were they so manipulated?
That's obviously you!!! Liberals are the dissenting voice!!!
You are being that guy lead by a pied piper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I give it maybe a year. It's not fuel it's not food and it's not borders.
It's nuclear war.
Once Iran Declares war on us (believe me GW is pushing for it)
Then Bush will be able to use " Limited nuclear warfare" That's what he'll do too. Then the rest of the world wont stand with us.
We get nuked they get nuked and that is that. The Rockefeller gang gets it's new world order and 90 to 96 percent of the people on earth are toast.
Have you ever wondered why the United states has never built bomb shelters for it's people? I'll let you in on some truth
We have guns and they know it. They know we will hunt them down and take them out. So, save themselves and leave us out in a nuclear exchange.
Other countries know it too. Japan balks and a sub hits a ship. Japan lives on shipping, that little island country has to import and export to exist.
No intelligent country would invade the US because we the people have weapons and know how to use them. They would play hell trying to move in a well armed nation and few countries have the air power to blanket us with bombs.
It has to use nukes.

I don't think our society is built in a "totally collapsable" format like the ancient civilizations you mentioned. Sure, we will go under and be lowered down to being below the superpower status, but I think the flexibility of our economy and ability to exist as a country will see us through the next century.

Who knows really, I dont think anybody really has the answer for that one. Though I do believe that if the U.S. would RELY on OUR OWN RESOURCES, i.e. oil, timber, etc. than other countrys. Than I dont think it would be a problem. For instance the timber industry they ship our lumber over seas to process and put millions of people here in the states out of work becuase they close mills etc. They SAY its cheaper to get it done over seas but in reality its not by the time they spend in sending it over and back and paying the price it would be a heck of a lot cheaper to process the lumber here in the states. It makes me SSOO mad.
