There is no reason to believe that spellcasting magic is real...
Magic (the spellcasting kind) has its origins in a form of primitive egoism - that we can, through our thoughts (or actions), affect our environment/future. It is a condition that evolved with human culture and is still seen today in many (if not all) of the world's religions and is especially pronounced among professional athletes (a "lucky shirt" or such).
Currently, there is no evidence supporting such abilities/qualities, in fact, all of the evidence counters these supernatural claims: In most cases of magical thinking the believers are mistaking correlation (two events coinciding) with causation (one event influencing the second).
If you (or anyone) do have the evidence you can win a million dollars from James Randi's site (see last link; in over ten years nobody has won the prize)

Real.
It's limits are what the whole-of-you is willing to believe in, and then you have to cope with the results.
Your conscious mind may be willing to believe that you are ready to kill someone, but your subconscious generally knows that if you are not ready to do it physically, get caught, and do the time in prison for the deed, then you are really not ready to do the spellwork. You can do all the conscious spells you want, if your subconscious is not in agreement with you, they will all be negated even before they can begin to affect anyone else.
Death and ressurection are generally not within most people's ability to believe in right off the bat. Most people start with much 'smaller' things, things that they CAN believe in, and gradually, thru experiencing the results of magick, improve the kinds of things that they can believe in.
It can be easier to believe in the "many-worlds interpretation of quantum physics", and that magick doesn't actually have any causative effect on things other than to navigate you among all the possible worlds to the one that most closely resembles the intent you focus on during the spell or ritual. Thus you don't have to see your magick as putting a soul back into a healed, previously dead, body so much as going to a world where that person has just had a near-death-experience.

Voodoo and the Australian Aboriginal equivelant can be very real to those who deeply believe in it.
Among both cultures the belief of its ability to work is traditionally ingrained.
I have seen and heard of cases of Australian Aborigines dying after having the ritual of pointing the bone preformed on them.
There are actually medically recorded cases.
The person looses all will to live and dies of apparent natural causes..
Ritual magic in Australia is loosing some of its power,as the indiginous people become intergrated into Western "culture".
But tribal magic is still very much feared among tribal communities..
In Haiti and various Caribean islands it is very much alive and powerful.
Certainly not for the feint hearted.
As for Western, Black Magic,it is not at all what it claims to be,nor can it preform the powers it claims.
One reason being, the practitioners are working against a scientific and questioning society.
All forms of magical powers are based on control of others or something. They require total and unquestioning belief by the "victim".
Wicca and Pagan practices seldom, if ever deal with anything other than the possitive.
Mainly working with the powers of nature that already exist.
It is just a case of being trained to use nature to preform abilities that could be termed magical.
This takes many years of study and training.
Nearly all humans have preformed at least one act of magic in their lives.Whether they are aware of it or not.
It is at its highest level at the stage of puburty.
But however this is our lowest point of ability to concentrate. So most are by sheer accident and not repeatable.
Never fear magic! At its best it can only enhance.
Black magic is beyond the ability of 99% of those who profess to practice it.The other one percent would never do anything to harm anyone.
Actually more likely to harm themselves.
This is very different to tribal magic, preformed by indiginous societies.
This should always be treated with the respect it deserves.

Well since I am not an athiest anymore and believe that the devil is real and that the magic does come from satan (I believed it came from nature when I practised the craft)...This is why the bible says to leave ot alone...I use to be Wicca, but I had too many problems with the craft, so I got covered in the blood. I had a friend who levitated a car and it came over to him and fell on him, killing him. I was having some problems with demons in Panama, in my house. Both my housekeeper and I could not get rid of them. I tried a protection spell and she tried voodoo, both did not work. I cursed someone and as the saying goes, if a person is not worthy of the curs, it comes back to the witch, threefold. So now I am cursed, still to this day. I believe Christians when they say that the magic is of Satan and not from nature, as a Wiccan would have you believe.

Deuteronomy 18:9-14 - Every aspect of the occult is here mentioned specifically. It is all an "abomination" and is forbidden. Specifically forbidden are: one who practices "witchcraft" and a "sorcerer" and "one who conjures spells" and a "spiritist."
Leviticus 19:31 - Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.
Leviticus 20:6 - The person who turns after mediums and familiar spirits, God says He would set His face against that person and cut him off from his people.
Leviticus 20:27 - A man or a woman who is a medium, or who has familiar spirits, shall surely be put to death; they shall stone them with stones.
Revelation 21:8 - But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.

.A lot of witch craft has to do with the use of people controlling your mind. The use of different chemical compounds(the weird stuff you see in movies) and methods of manipulation( positive and negative feedback) to create incidents. If you have a strong will and a strong belief in a power greater than yourself(God), you should not fear. The Bible in the book of Isiah talks about the Israelites using witch craft and sorcery to put spells on each other. The Bible also tells how God punished the Israelites .

Yes, it is a religion and even the Government has recognized Pagan-Wiccan as a religion in 1972.
1985 The Fed Gov IRS said that they could be like the other churches and do not have to keep financial records.
And a person came to Him and said, "What of magic?"
"Know that your will is that of a human, and you are not
omniscient. You cannot see all the results of your actions. Therefore
ask 'Not my will, but Thine be done' and leave the ordering of the
MultiVerse to Deity, not to human will," He replied. "Order yourself,
not the MultiVerse."

The religion was orginally known at Voudon before transporting to the Americas. It became Voodoo and was associated with fearful notions as it was related to African/Black people.
