Absolutely. I don't understand why kids are taught obsure historical facts, geography about countries they will never visit and chemistry they half understand and forget in a month but leave school without knowing how to write a cheque, balance their bank account, check the oil and tyre pressure on a car, clean a kitchen, deal with billing queries, book a holiday or a house repair and so much more that they actually need to know just to get by in life.

that is a great idea. I wish they would of taught some life skills in schools because some parents then and now do not seem to be teaching their kids any. Yeah that would be a tough one to get teachers to do.

Definitely, that's why we do it . In elementary health class we teach all students about hygiene, what foods to eat, all kinds of safety (from personal safety to water safety).
If students show that they do not possess even the basic life skills they can go to the learning centre where they will learn about personal care (washing and brushing their hair) and even how to cook. When students get older they can take courses that will teach them how to manage money and make budgets.

Yes!!!!! Students need to learn about money management, food preparation, nutrition, clothing selection, care and repair, parenting, families, housing decisions. Wow! Sounds like a Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum.
Seriously, this is what I teach and I tell my students that what I teach they will use no matter whether they end up being a rocket scientist, teacher, plumber or whatever.
