It is very hard to say that astrology is true, and "how is it proven" is a very good question.
Scientific theories are only scientific if they can be refuted, and astrology can be either "proven" or refuted, so in that sense, it is a scientific theory.
The problem with it, as far as actual scientific investigation and testing is concerned, is that scientists think astrology is one thing and disprove that thing, when it is not in fact what scientists think it is. They never actually examine the astrological system, so disproving astrology because it is not astronomy, per se, does nothing to disprove astrology. For example, scientists say that astrology thinks the sun goes around the earth, but astrology doesn't think any such thing. Scientists explain that what "rises" is very different for any given time now, and astrology has kept some ancient alignment; but they don't realize that an astrological sign is not an astronomical constellation.
And they also take whatever any dingbat doing astrology says. Anybody can learn to make a chart and anybody can be an interpreter of them - finding people who know the actual astrological relationships to astronomy, and who know what they are saying in reality, are hard to find.
So science, either knowingly or unknowingly, tends to put up a straw man and knock it down.
That is not to say that I think that astrology is proven. And that is not to say that if anything about it is proven, that astrology is free of error. It is to say that science has not done a good job of investigating and testing astrology.
One pair, I believe the name is Gaugelin, a French team, decided to take astrology at its word, and examined one facet of astrology, and to their amazement, found that it worked out with a huge factor of correlation. Something about people with certain things in their charts making them good military people: turns out that the overwhelming number of generals had this feature. They went on to look at other things, and found similar correlations.
The whole subject is very complicated, and unfortunately, the language used by most people who "do astrology" is rather simple-minded and not really informed. They make it sound like their are definite things you can predict - "you'll fall down and bump your head on 10 May" - for example. But no such thing is a real claim of astrology. Compare: you will do well in a military career/ you will become a Major General. Not too many generals, lots of people who would do well in a military career who are not in the military. But you could test to see if such people would in fact do well in the military.
So there are endless disagreements and misunderstandings involved here, not the least of which is what happens when a real scientist does a good study and finds a real correlation...science huffs and snuffs and says "bah, humbug" anyway. And casts doubt and discredit upon the investigator. So no scientist wants to get involved.
But definitely, the sun sign "predictions" are largely useless. There are 11 celestial bodies in 12 signs, in 12 houses, with many different ways of relating to each other. That's a huge number of variables. Astrologers vary in their abilities and savvy, and so what we're left with is a free-for-all where what is scientifically testable and what is horse feathers are all mixed up in people's minds.
Astrology is not proven. That does not make it true or false, just unproven.

No. It is simply a superstition that has just, for some reason or another, survived the test of time. No scientific test of any sort has ever proved it to be true int he least. People saying otherwise are deluded with themselves, and those who say it can't be proved by scientific processes are simply creating a major fallacy in their argument.
Think about it, do you know of anything that is true (without a doubt) that hasn't been proven or explained by science? No.
Astrology predicts vague responses that could be interpreted a number of ways. A certain year being a good year for "relationships" could mean anything from new friends, a new spouse, perhaps mending a relationship from before, etc. Hardly "true" in any sense of what you're talking about.

A science based on stars' alignments, yes, but
Astrology has been around for CENTURIES. Just because it isn't scientifically proven doesn't mean it isn't true. There more important things to study in science like how to cure cancer and etc.
People who actually follow astrology and planet's alignments yearly know that this is far more than just a "coincidence" or a general statement. It's true for me for and millions , maybe billions of people out there and if 2003 was a bad year for you maybe you should have done your natal chart and see whats really in store for you instead of reading an inaccurate magazine yearly overview.

There is a problem with your terms. If you are referring to SCIENTIFIC "truth" and "proof", the fact is, astrology is not provable. It's not disproven; it's simply not ABLE to be proven.
I will elaborate: scientific proof is based off the possibility that something could be disproven. A theory can only be scienticfically "proven" if it is able to be disproven, and hasn't been. Astrology cannot be tested. It cannot be experimented on. There are simply too many unknowns. Therefore it cannot be a SCIENTIFIC theory; it cannot be SCIENTIFICALLY proved. Therefore, it cannot be considered a scientific truth.
HOWEVER. Note that it cannot be disproven. Therefore you wouldn't be wrong to believe in it. There are truths other than scientific truths. We simply must categorize them differently.

astrology is a study but as to how true it can be its based on your own beliefs and well its more or else a basis of belief and non belief... started when people needed some hope and people come out reading the stars for future happenings.

Astrology IS real - it's the "science" of prediction by reading stars.
But it is NOT true - you can't predict anything by the stars.

I don't think it's true. I could read the horoscope for any sign and make it fit my life. It's all made up.
On the other hand, I have always been attracted to and friends with the signs they say I am compatible with.
I guess I really don't know what to believe.

No, and it's not proven. It's disproven by the fact that it is too vague to predict anything but ordinary events that apply to most people everyday. It's disproven by the fact that it cannot tell me what I've had or what I will have for breakfast.
2003 was supposed to be a good year for me with money. It was not. It was the worst ever.
