Hollow coins have been around for years. And transmitters that size would not be viable for long-range tracking, only short distances. Additionally, there is no guarantee, at all, that the subject would keep the coin on their person at all times, or wouldn't lose it, spend it, etc.
My guess is that they may have been used for another purpose, or to keep track of subjects while inside the facilities.
Also, the picture in the article was of a U.S. Quarter, not a Canadian coin.

i in my opinion imagine the entire theory is fantastically stupid. you need to be able to hint a coin yet not someone.what's to assert that individual did not use the coin in a gum device, information paper stand, parking meter. Now your monitoring the Gum device, information paper stand, or parking meter. Then the collector for it, then a economic agency someplace. should be good for coin creditors in constrained production money type of an Authenticity verification. or you're waiting to work out the first end or 2 a worker makes on the right of a shift, in case you flooded your plant with the money. yet in the journey that they are like a large number of individuals the coin will discover that is thanks to a replace jar on the staff living house and sit down there, for months waiting to develop into element of a roll of money on that is thanks to a economic agency someplace. yet i guess the right salesman ought to promote ice cubes to an eskimo. someone will purchase it, wether that is functional , sensible, or worthless.

go ahead and believe everything that you read. Just another example of keeping you paranoid and fearful. If such a thing does exsist I'm sure that the USA came up with it and uses it and now blames it on Canada. Remember the song!
BLAME CANADA

It was really creepy reading that this morning. I don't think the Canadians did it. And - I'm wondering - how many of them are here in the states. The story I read said that they showed up in 2005. We're just hearing about it now.

Very creepy.

We aren't sure if Canada issued the coins, or if they were issued by terror groups and used the Canadian coin in their efforts. Either way, it shows how dangerous things can get if we don't watch for it.

it doesn't bother me much because i don't live in canada. what really bothers me are the spy bills ($20 and $50) here in the united states. someday soon we will go to a cashless society and everything will be either card scanned or a number on our skin. combine that with implants to see where everyone is and.........oops i said too much...............

Not at all, considering all my Canadian coins are collectibles, and in a binder in a closet.
