I'm writing an essay, worth a lot of my grade, about what makes a true hero. I want to bring up that some people we take for granted can be heroes too...

The British, I believe, call a trash collector a "Dustman." It has a nicer sound to it. What the hey -- they invented the language, so they've had more practice than we here in the colonies.
