I know this is an odd question, but if I was to paint a little glass votive and light a tea light candle inside of it, will the acrylic paint smear or catch fire? I'd rather not try it out to find out, but I'd really like to know. Thanks in advance.

In the crafts department (I shop at walmart for my acrylics), they have a tube w / clear liquid / gel, for glass and metal. It's not expensive, and it will make your paint suitable for your candle use. It also, will prevent it from flaking and being scratched off over time. Won't dilute your colors either.

If it's painted on the outside of the glass it will be fine. Acrylic paint will easily chip off glass. Make sure you use glass conditioner first (a clear product you "paint" onto the glass) and a sealer afterward.

I'd be concerned about toxic fumes from any of the paintable products when they heat. You can have toxic fumes that are not visible and that don't smell.
I make wonderful candleholders by cutting stained glass down to very small pieces, gluing them to the votive holders with clear waterbase craft glue then grouting it with regular tile grout when the glue is dry.
I demonstrate this art medium at my county fair every year, if you are interested in more details please email me.

The only paint product that will work on the project you are working on is Stain Glass paint. You will also have to get glass conditioner. Both are available in any large craft store.
