The first problem is, whose list of virtues? The Nine Noble Virtues derived from Norse lore? Christian ones? Buddhist? They overlap but are not all the same. Denying the body is virtuous to some but criminal to others. This is why I tend to strive for wisdom. Learning when it is best to act a certain way seems better to me than worrying whose virtues I'm upholding. Or if you don't want to call wisdom a virtue, I'd say I'd choose honor above the rest. I think it covers charity, respect, love and several others that you could name.

Withdraw from action, or clip. This is prime virtue to me. To others there are three to choose from: work, pride and arrogance.

To your own self be true. To be honest, I don't know what the BEST virtue is, but without that one, you are doomed or dammed for sure.

Humility. which is teachability. A stance on life which puts one on the same wave length as other humans, - not ahead of, not behind, walking beside and being a friend.
