Brooklyn Bagel is going to be your best bet. A distant second would probably be Western Bagel out Sepulveda towards the Van Nuys area. I'm not sure if Goldstein's is still around, but they were pretty good as well.

If you go to Brooklyn Bagel, make sure you only get as many as you are going to have within 24 hours. Their lack of additives makes them get rock hard rather quickly.

Brooklyn Bagel Bakery (2217 Beverly Blvd, at Alvarado) has been around for 50+ years and makes pretty good bagels -- in fact, they provide bagels to many of the delis.

Unfortunately, LA bagels in general leave a lot to be desired. Western Bagel, for example, is very popular but the product is pretty mediocre.

doriobster said my sentiments exactly. Bagels in California are not like bagles in the East Coast!

Try Noah's or Western Bagel, i find them satisfying.
I believe they both have websites you can look up for locations.
