-3 + 12 is the same as saying 12 + -3 which is the same as 12 - 3

12 - 3 = 9

Look at a number line. Start at -3. Then move to the right 12 spaces. You land on number 9. Negative three means that on a number line it is three spaces to the left of 0. All negative numbers are to the left of zero on a number line and are less than zero. Hope that helps!

so it really becomes 12-3 becuase 12 is the biggest number

it is 9. 12-3= 9. subtract the bigger number from the smaller one and then put the symbol of the bigger number. i
eg:
-6 + 5
the answer is -1. because 6-5=1 and 6 is the bigger numer and has negative symbol on it.
