I'm a hairstylist and will also be working as a Pharmacy Tech. I'm moving to the Greenspoint or North Houston area (are those the same things?) What is a good elementary school and daycare center in that area?

Yea... You might not wanna move to Gunspoint... I mean Greenspoint. That area of town has the highest crime rate for stollen cars.
And I know native Houstonian Joke around and call it "Gunspoint" but actually SouthWest Houston has the highest homicide and violent crime rate. But with all that being said if I were you I'd look towards South Central Houston or anywhere inside the 610 loop.

The SouthWest side is nice but the parts with the high crime rate are bettween 610 & 59 South Around the Areas of Gulfton, Chimney rock, Bellaire, but if you could get a place off Westhimer or possible Richmond then you'd be good. Just make sure you do your Homework or you'll be moving as SOON as get here.

Contact a relator to advise you about the good school districts and areas to live in Houston. You can also contact the police department and they usually will have an officer on the day shift that can tell you the crime rates of certain areas/sections in Houston. Look up daycare centers on the internet and then investigate whether or not there have been any complaints against these daycare centers (google search, word of mouth, maybe private investigator).

It is a big city with big city problems so remember that fact! FYI, the crime rate is up in Houston so always be aware of your surroundings and never walk around at night by yourself. Be street savvy and don't make yourself too tempting of a target for criminals.

Greenspoint is in the North part of Houston.

I would never suggest anyone unfamiliar with Houston to move to the Greenspoint area. That is probably one of our worst areas as far as crime...the whole Northside is just that way! Don't get me wrong there are a lot of nice homes and upscale businesses but the crime is just awful. Stuff like car-jackings, shootings, rapes and assaults. I would really reconsider moving there.

Sorry...Best of luck to you though!

That is the worst place you could have chosen to go. I grew up there by greenspoint off 1-45 and just in the past 15 years it started going bad. I recommend you do more research before going there.

first thing to do is get rid of the Louisiana license plates. Thanks to the "Katrina victims" (150,000 still live here in the Gulfton area on the Southwest side) they've kinda worn out their welcome. Become a Texan. Enjoy it. We're nice people. As for areas to live, Guns... errr, Greenspoint is not where you want to live. Consider going a bit farther north, maybe to Spring, if you are going to be working over in that part of town.

Please reconsider moving to Greenspoint. It is NOT the same as north Houston. We know it as "Gunspoint". My suggestion would be to go to www.har.com to get an idea of other areas that might be more suitable for you and your children. Good luck.

lots of my friends live in/around the woodlands and that's supposed to be nice if you have a family. it's north, off the 45. we live in the heights area, it's closer to downtown and things to do, it's very safe but don't look on the east side, not as nice. try searching by zip codes, you can search the web for a zip code map then use www.har.com, best for any real estate/rentals in houston. our zip is 77008... good luck!!
