I’m curious to know if Native Americans are offended by statements such as “I made reservations for dinner”, “That guy is scalping tickets”, “We are experiencing an Indian summer”& “I can’t believe my brother is an Indian giver”?

No not really we tend to overlook idiotic phrases and ignorant people and the venomous hate they spew. however there are some that react to these words. SCALPING was not started by us, it was started by those french folks back then it was a way to collect a bounty on our people in an effort to eradicate us. scalps were taken to prove a killing of one of us. Mens' scalps were less valuable than womans and childrens' because woman could reproduce and the child could possibly grow up and procreate. Some of our people picked up on this idea of scalping but not for profit but as a way to indicate he was brave and not fearful. ONLY Adult males were taken aint no Honor in Killing a Child or Woman is it? If you will , Please take a look at some of the newer and updated books on these matters some even have OUR side of the storys. a good start is a book titled BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE it is profound to say the least.

Why would we be?

Like someone said ^ scalping is not a tactic originating from Natives. My ancestors learned it from the euro invaders...
"Indian giver"...never made any sense to me...it was always the whites who "gave" and took back or just quashed.

Do you get offended when people say things like "Polly wants a cracker" or "I painted my house white"...uhhh...silly examples for a silly question.

:)

I read an article recently about how certain Indian rights groups are all fired up because they feel exploited by car companies giving their vehicles names like "Tacoma", "Cherokee", "Sequoia", etc...

That's kind of ridiculous.
