well breeding goldfish is easy u just need to make sure you have 1 of both sexes. first, you will need to get a male. finding a male will be hard unless its breeding season. when the males are ready to breed they will have white breeding bumps on their gills and edges of fins. so look for this when selecting a male. as far as breeding you will need a large tank about 30 gallons or so or a pond and just put them in there and during the breeding time she will get full of eggs. the male will then chase her until she drops the eggs. he will then fertilize them. u should remove the eggs soon after because the fish will eat them. or separate the eggs with divider. make sure to put some panty hose on the filter to ensure the babies dont get sucked in it. after all this you will have babies. goldfish are easy to breed I'm actually looking forward to babies in the spring from my goldfish inside. if you have any other questions feel free to email me. good luck!...jewels ps... the eggs that look fuzzy after a few days are the unfertilized eggs these should be removed.

Ok how do you know the fish you have is female? There is no way to tell until the spring and the fish are mature. Then you can only be sure of males. Male goldfish grow tubricles on their gill plates and pectoral fins. Those are little white bumps, on the fins they will line the outer most fin ray. They are for stimulating the female to lay eggs. On that note you cannot breed goldfish. If they do lay eggs they will turn around and eat them. Many males are infertile due to breeding. It is a level of fishkeeping that most aquarists are not at. I'm not saying its impossible but you need a few more years of know how. Even professional dealers do not breed. Most new fancy breeds come from Jackie Chan's farm in China (not the Chan of martial arts). My goldfish dealer insted of breeding them himself would rather fly to China and buy them from him. That's how most of the fancier and expensive fish come from. They may however breed in an out door pond if it has ample room and plants to hide in. Breeders usually hand spawn though BC it is extremely stressful to the female fish, who are often harrassed by the males for days. They end up being beaten up and exhausted and will more than likely die. So some advice to you don't try, at least until you can get some better and specific information as to how to breed them. I'd leave it to the pros and enjoy what you have. Its cheeper for you to buy the fanciest fish you can find than to buy 10, 20 gallon tanks and filters. That is what it will take to breed them, not to mention the food fed to fry has to be carefully measured and given at the right time. The water has to be impecably clean, i.e. daily water changes. It's just far too difficult for the average aquarist.

If you're sure you have a female, go back to the person who said it was a female and ask them to find you a male. Chances are, they won't guarantee the sex because it is so difficult to tell. Otherwise, you can't force fish to breed. They do or they don't. It could happen the first month you get them and then it could take two or three years or never; even if you really did have a male and a female.

The most reliable method of determining your goldfish’s gender is by examining the fish's vent (anal opening), which is located under its’ underside between the tail and anal fins. If the vent sticks out a bit, you have a female. A male’s vent does not stick out, but instead goes inward.

In general, females are usually larger in body and have larger anal fins than males. Males usually have thicker and longer pectoral fins than females.

By the way, how did you know you had a female?
