Football was played centuries before your country was even discovered!!!!
And your gridiron players mainly use their hands, so why you choose to call it 'football', God only knows.
99% of the world refer to 'soccer' as FOOTBALL, so get used to it.

For the attention of Know It All, you obviously don't know how to read my question.
I don't care what you call it. You can call it 'mymomsabitch' for all I care. Just don't tell the rest of the world what to call it.
This all stems from a previous question where some idiot was telling us to refer to it as 'soccer' as he was getting confused.
We shall always call it 'FOOTBALL', and if that confuses your American *ss, then as a country you're more stupid than I realised.

please get this through your heads once and for all. we couldn't care less what 99% of the world calls it. 99% of the world can kiss my american *ss. we don't have to get used to anything. we call your kickball game soccer, and we're going to keep on calling it soccer. if you want to call it football, that's fine with us. it's you europeans and south americans who seem to have a problem with this, not us. call it football or whatever you want, but here in america, football is football, and soccer is soccer, and that's the way it's going to stay.

No doubt the 'Blessed' St. David of Becks will enlighten the heathen when he travels across the pond to bring knowledge of the beautiful game to the natives...only trouble is if he preaches the word to well they'll end up beating England as well.....

in Ireland we have a sport called Gaelic football. everybody just refers to this Irish sport as football but we also have the brainpower to call 'soccer' football as well and nobody gets confused.

But that is just typical of the average American and their insistence that they speak English. They speak American/English....... as mentioned in an answer above, they have lots of words that are different, that's OK....what isn't is there insistence that the English we speak is wrong. Er... hello?
