I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and am wondering when I can feel safe that it isn't ectopic.

Well around that time period you should have already felt something that indicated an eptopic pregnancy, instead of worrying about it I would go to the doctor.

What symptoms may indicate an ectopic pregnancy?
Ectopic pregnancies are usually discovered when a woman has symptoms at about six or seven weeks, though you may notice symptoms as early as four weeks. In some cases, there are no symptoms and the ectopic is discovered during a first trimester ultrasound.

Symptoms can vary greatly from person to person, and depending on how far along you are and whether the ectopic pregnancy has ruptured — a true obstetric emergency. To prevent rupture, it's critical to get diagnosed and treated as soon as there's even a hint of a problem, although sometimes rupture occurs without much advance warning. Ectopic pregnancies don't always register on home pregnancy tests, so if you suspect there's a problem, don't wait for a positive pregnancy test to contact your caregiver.

Call your practitioner immediately if you have any of the following symptoms:

• Abdominal or pelvic pain or tenderness. It can be sudden, persistent, and severe but may also be mild and intermittent early on. You may feel it only on one side, but the pain can be anywhere in your abdomen or pelvis and is sometimes accompanied by nausea and vomiting.

• Vaginal spotting or bleeding. If you're not sure you're pregnant yet, you may think you're getting a light period at first. The blood may look red or brown like the color of dried blood, and may be continuous or intermittent, heavy or light.

• Pain that gets worse when you're active or while moving your bowels or coughing.

• Shoulder pain. Cramping and bleeding can mean many things, but pain in your shoulder, particularly when you lie down, is a red flag for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and it's critical to get medical attention immediately. The cause of the pain is internal bleeding, which irritates nerves that go to your shoulder area.

• If a fallopian tube has ruptured, you may also have signs of shock, such as a weak, racing pulse; pale, clammy skin; and dizziness or fainting. In that case, call 911 without delay.

well ectopic isnt something you should play around with time wise,i suggest if u have any questions go right to the doc for an ultrasound and blood test then you will get ur answers,i am 8 weeks preg atm and at 7 weeks i was attmitted to hospital for pain's they suspected ectopic but it wasnt thankfully,if you had an ectopic you would be curling over in pain by now and probably bleeding..(according to docs)i asked the doc about that and he said u would feel it by then becoz ur fallopian tube is the thickness of a hair..and by 5 1/2 weeks baby is much bigger than that.

Well if you havent had cramps, bleeding, weakness, dizziness, fainting, or headaches and if u havent had shoulder pain then u shouldnt be worrying at all. Just to be on the safe side get a couple blood tests to see if your HCG level goes up. Im pregnant now 8 weeks, and about the same time as u I had sharp pains but i was so early they couldnt see if it was ectopic. So i got my blood drawn then 5 days later they took it again. If it doubles like it should then everything is fine, if not then something is wrong!

I'm guessing that if you know you are 5 1/2 weeks pregnant that you have already been to the doctor. If they did any sort of check on you, then you should have nothing to worry about. Ectopic pregnancies acure before the egg gets out of your tube and usually your hormone counts are lower then they should be. I had one and the pregnancy test barely came out positive and when they did an internal exam it didn't even look like I was pregnant. Not to mention I couldn't even walk up stairs without almost passing out. Congrats on the pregnancy!!

usually around the third month, but eptopic are rare. I wouldn't worry over it unless you've had one before or it runs in the family.
