for all real values of x, x^4>0 so x-3 must be <0

x-3<0 add 3 to each side
x<3

x^4 is alway positive...always > 0
so x-3 has to be < 0 for it to be negative
x-3 <0
x<3

Divide both sides by x^4
then x-3<0 so if you add 3 to both sides
x<3
